A Guide to Keeping Your Mixed Compost Clean

With spring in full swing, we wanted to give some tips on how to keep your mixed compost roll cart clean through the summer.

Keep the odor down with:
- Sprinkling baking soda into the roll cart
- Squirting Dawn dish soap around the interior of the roll cart
- Bag your compost in brown paper bags (no plastic, even if it says it's compostable!)

Layer your compost with:
- Use old greasy cardboard pizza boxes to break up the food waste in the roll cart
- Use leaves & grass clippings from your yard work to layer food waste between
- Use bark & woody debris to layer food waste between

Clean your roll cart by:
- Rinsing it out with water only and dumping it into your garden (those compost juices are great for your flowers and vegetables!)
- Rinsing it out with Dawn dish soap and dumping it onto any walkways around your house to kill any weeds
