Touring a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) today to learn more about the hard work these teams do to do keep the end-market recyclable materials clean!
Behind us are conveyor belts with robots and sorters picking out contaminates in the recycling.
The most dangerous and damaging contaminates are plastic bags and batteries. The plastic bags get stuck in the different mechanics and the machines have to be shut down to remove them. The best place for them is to be reused or put into the garbage.
Batteries (especially rechargeable) are a major fire hazard and this MRF is having at least one fire a week due to them. Keep yourself and others safe by bringing your batteries to our Recycling Center (1726 SE Hwy 101) and not putting them in your garbage or recycling.
Thank you for all you do to keep your recycling clean by only putting paper, cardboard, tin, aluminum, and plastic bottles/jugs #1 & #2 in the roll cart. You can recycle more at our Recycling Center, too!
